Foreign Baseball and Basketball

There's really no telling how many reverses and other types of errors there are in non-American or Canadian produced trading card sets because there's no real guide that keeps track of all of them and there will definitely not be online scans posted of every card every created. But that's part of the fun of looking--you never know what you are going to find.

This post only concerns baseball and basketball cards. The only other sports I have discovered with reverse negatives in foreign-produced sets are in soccer, cricket, and rugby, and those will be covered in a later post.

1967 Topps Venezuela #150 Cy Young

1988-89 BYN (Puerto Rico) Winter League #75 Javier Ocasio

1993 Lime Rock (Dominican) Winter League #17 Carlos Mota (back picture). The Indians logo is reversed on the back picture (on the right), which you can tell by comparing it with the front.

1993-94 Line Up (Venezuela) #84 Mike Soper

1993-94 Line Up (Venezuela) #148 Kevin Noriega (back picture)

1994-95 Line Up (Venezuela) #266 Jaime Dismuke

1994-95 Line Up (Venezuela) #E34 Jim Bowie

There is also a reverse of the 1993-94 Line Up Venezuela #139 Mario Labastidas card, which I have seen but do not currently have a scan.

1988-89 Fournier NBA Estrellas #3 Kevin McHale (made in Spain)

1989 CAO Muflon (Yugoslavia) #1 Magic Johnson. Notice that the 2 on the front of his shirt is backwards and a backwards S is at the beginning where the "Lakers" should be.

1989 KOS-JEZ #204 Ralph Sampson (made in Yugoslavia)

1993-94 Disney Limit Magazine #NNO Kevin Johnson (made in Germany)

There has to be a ton more out there and I'm always looking (though probably not with Japanese cards--I've checked thousands of those and haven't found a single reversed photo yet). In the meantime, next post will deal with team-issued sports cards...

  1. Just came across this blog - very cool. I didn't see this Andrew Beinbrink card on your blog - is it coming up, or did you not know of it? http://borosny.blogspot.com/2011/04/interview-with-andrew-beinbrink.html

    1. Hey, thanks for bringing this card up! There are a whole lot of the Royal Rookies cards from 2000 and 2001 that have reverse negatives, along with the Beinbrink card. I was planning on glossing over it since this particular error was so common in these sets, but I can include a post on it if you are interested.
